In some years, due to the delay in the flow of water in the Hirmand River, its cultivated area increases to such an extent that the crop production is more than the needs of the people of the region, and due to the distance to the consumption markets, the farmers suffer losses. More than 300 species of sour tea are found worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions. Sour tea or red tea is prepared from the sepals of the sour tea plant and is consumed as a hot or cold drink in many parts of the world. It reduces blood pressure, cools the body, dilutes and purifies the blood, controls blood cholesterol, liver and bile disorders, and is also soothing and is considered one of the rich sources of iron needed by the human body.

Cultivation:

Sour tea is usually propagated by seeds, but sometimes it is easily grown by cuttings. This method creates shorter plants that are planted as a mixed crop between trees and other plants, in which case the yield of sepals is relatively low. Because it is a plant with deep roots, deep plowing to a depth of 20 cm is recommended in preparing the seed bed. If this plant is cultivated only for the production of sepals, the suitable time for cultivation is in May. If the cultivation is for foliage, the seeds can be planted in March without thinning. The seeds are mostly grown in early spring in warm greenhouses and grow quickly.
